FoA.Academy First Edition at Hutspot Amsterdam

Fashionshows as something quite different from performance art (or not?), the rise and fall of celebrities as role models and the ‘African’ fashion industry, its designs and the designers of Ghana: FoA.Academy’s first edition of 2013 was colorful, inspiring and dynamic. All the right elements came together for a unique evening of sharing, listening and debating. Steven van den Haak, Joris Jansen and Charlotte Corstanje each shared their stories and visuals convincingly and with great joy. As important was our public who were eager posing their intelligent questions and comments and Noa Johannes doing a fine job moderating the evening. With Swinckels providing our drinks, DJ Damien Hope taking care of some music and the cosy atmosphere of Hutspot, FoA.Academy was a real success!

FoA.Academy: Young speakers wanted!

FoA.Academy is a platform for young intellectuals to connect fashion, cultures and social trends to sociological insights. FoA.Academy aims to offer a place where young people can share their inspiring research projects in public. Fashion is appealing, a passion, it is elegance and ease, though it is also identity, a creation of an image and culture. In a very approachable way, FoA.Academy shifts to a more in-depth analysis of fashion, style and trends.
In the spring and summer of 2013, First of August will bring together young speakers in a series of lectures on fashion, trends and culture. Are you working on an interesting academic research project that connects to one of these issues? And would you like to share your academic research project with a live audience? First of August in Paris | Premiere Vision

Last week we visited the fabric fair ‘Premiere Vision’ in Paris, to find new fabrics for the spring/summer collection of ‘by FoA’. I’m excited to announce that coming season our first items for men will be realized and we will extend the female- and accessory line of ‘by FoA’. To create these new elegant designs we searched for new materials and fabrics in the challenging labyrinth of the massive fabric fair, Premiere Vision. After some wandering, we decided to start at the ‘Tencel’ stand, a company making yarns from trees. I’m very interested in their technology and sustainable yarns. We found some very nice new materials and gained good new contacts to work with for the coming season.
At the moment I’m working on the new patterns for the spring/summer collection. This week I will go to Budapest to develop the clothing and accessories of ‘by FoA’. I will keep you posted!
